A few words from Leslie Thomas on winning Legal Aid Barrister of the Year 2012.
“I want to say thank you to everyone for all their kind words, support and encouragement. I’ve really been touched by it all. It is still sinking in.
The award means a lot to me, but being a member of Garden Court means so much more. I just love working with such great people. Lawyers who are simply the best in their respective fields. It is such a privilege for me to tell others I am a member of Garden Court. I know I would never have stood a chance were it not for the opportunities this chambers has given me over the years. Especially the clerks. A special thanks to all my civil clerks and Phil Bampfylde for putting my name forward when I thought he was crazy for doing so.
I would also like to pay tribute to Stephanie Harrison and Shu Shin Luh. Well done to you both. There is no doubt in my mind that Stephanie deserved an award for the amazing work she has done for her clients. She is an fantastic lawyer who also deserves recognition for her hard work. The testimonials that were read out for the work she does day in day out were impressive.
We had 3 nominees in 2012. More than any other organisation! That’s saying a lot about what people think of us. Next year I hope we have more nominees and winners.”
